EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Co-Director, Center for Democracy in Action, Inc., November, 2004 to present. The work of the Center is to strengthen civil society through creating/implementing places and spaces for inclusive dialogue on issues that matter to the community, state and nation. Services include facilitation, training, student experiential work.
Instructor, Communication Arts, Edgewood College Co-taught a course entitled "Blacks in Film and TV" with Anthony Brown, 3 credits, Fall semester, 2004.
Instructor, Human Ecology, University of Wisconsin-Madison Taught a course entitled "Critical Perspectives in Human Ecology, 3 credits. Fall semester, 2004.
Interim Co-Director of the Human Issues program (mid-August 2003-May 2004), Edgewood College
This position plus teaching was ¾ time. As a result of joint work done with Judy Adrian, a new student tracking system has been developed (to assure that the HI requirement will be met), new informational materials have been created, and new communication structures have been developed with HI seminar instructors and Independent Study Advisors. Two Ford Foundation grants for Preview Forum events have also been awarded as a result of the joint work.

Co-taught two 2 semester, 4 credit courses entitled "The Common Good" and "Race and Today's Politics" in Human Issues. In the second semester 2003, co-taught a single semester 3 credit film criticism course entitled "Blacks in Film and TV" in Communication Arts.

Director of Prevention Services, University Health Services, University of Wisconsin- Madison (May, 1993- July, 2000). Also held a joint appointment as lecturer with the School of Human Ecology.
Provided direction and management oversight for: Environmental Protection unit, Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Resources, Campus-Community Partnerships program and served as Director of the Robert Wood Johnson grant to reduce high-risk drinking on campus. Served concurrently on the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and the UW System Committee on Alcohol Issues. Initiated Family and Community Town Suppers (FACTS) statewide.
Director, Department of Human Services, Dane County government, Madison, Wisconsin (September 1989- May, 1993)
This position reported to the County Executive. Provided direction and management oversight for programs in economic assistance, juvenile justice, child protective services, Badger Prairie Health Care Center, adult community services, public health services and special strategies for homeless persons and persons with disabilities. The Department workforce numbered approximately 500 employees. Achievements: successfully merged two formerly separate Departments and hired a new management team; created new facilities to serve homeless women and children; initiated and established Joining Forces for Families, a cooperative strategy with United Way, the City of Madison, Madison Metropolitan School District and the Madison Community Foundation to create community-based teams to focus on supporting strengths and assets to move the system toward greater prevention focus. This structure has grown exponentially based on extensive evaluation and demonstrated effectiveness. It flourishes throughout Dane County today.
