Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission Squaw Bay Hearing
A public hearing was held on May 23, 2005, at the Monona Community Center on the no wake ordinance proposed for Squaw Bay on Lake Monona with the goal of encouraging more public input on a no wake zone in the heavy traffic bay. Normal rules for public hearings were suspended* so a full room discussion on concerns and options could be held. Small groups then discussed alternatives. Over 200 people attended the hearing. Commissioners received substantive commentary both through Forum discussion and through written evaluations.

*The Dane County government suspended the usual hearing testimony format to create a more interactive, less intimidating process; one that encourages participants to thoughtfully and respectfully share their ideas.
