November 2, 2004 to Present - Co-Director, non-profit Center for Democracy in Action, Inc. The Center for Democracy in Action, Inc. (CDA) is a broad resource for organizations and individuals who seek to engage citizens and other residents in effective strategies to build and maintain healthy communities. The resources of the CDA can be accessed for local community or non-profit organization partnership development (increasing inclusion and participation), community visioning, conference planning and implementation, planning and hosting dialogue events, and development activities. Clients include: City of Madison mayor's office; Harambee Health and Family Center; UW Madison Rural Sociology Nanotechnology Consensus Conference; Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission; Preview Forum/Ford Foundation; Opportunities, Inc., Jefferson, WI; and the State Department of Health and Family Services.

January, 1995 to present - Adjunct Faculty, Edgewood College Graduate Program, Madison, WI.

August 23, 2004 to January 6, 2005 - Graduate Lecturer, University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Human Ecology.

August 15, 2003 to May 21, 2004 - Interim Co-Director, Center for Democracy in Action and Human Issues Program, Edgewood College, Madison, WI. Administration of the Human Issues program involved organizing classes, tracking students, advising independent study projects, working with faculty and developing program materials. Through the Center for Democracy in Action, we offered a series of programs on globalization, were part of a team effort to move inclusionary zoning into the Madison city ordinances, selected high school students and made arrangements for the fourth year of the Summer Media Institute, continued working on the civic mapping project, and conducted community dialogues on four-year old kindergarten, a Madison gaming casino and the City of Madison/Town of Madison/City of Fitchburg annexation issues.

January, 1995 to August, 2003 - Human Issues Coordinator/Undergraduate Faculty, Center for Democracy in Action, Edgewood College, Madison, WI. As Human Issues Coordinator, I built linkages between organizations and businesses in the Madison area community and Edgewood College while at the same time working directly with students on their required Human Issues projects - a project intended to integrate the first three years of course work with real world issues.

January, 1996 to present - Graduate faculty, Edgewood College, Madison. I teach an interdisciplinary masters level course called Studies in Change three to four times each year. I have taught undergraduate courses for Edgewood from the fall of 1995 through the spring of 2004.

May, 1993 to May, 2001 - President, Learning Leadership, Inc., McFarland, WI. Programs offered through this business focus on three central capacities needed by leaders in the emerging age: embracing diversity, learning to learn in new ways, and developing a personal philosophy of leadership.

Within this business, I offered multiple seminars and workshops in cooperation with several departments of the University of Wisconsin-Extension. The educational programs include: Valuing Persons with Physical Challenges, Leadership for the Emerging Age, and Heartful Learning (offered both face-to-face and via the Internet). I have conducted faculty/staff development workshops with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Extension, the State of Wisconsin, Northeast Iowa Community College, the University of Tennessee-Nashville, the Madison Small Business Development Center, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Concordia College, University of Missouri-Columbia, Oklahoma State University, Burnett County, Wisconsin, Leadership Program, Lincoln University-Missouri, National Extension Leadership Development program - Colorado State University, and the Society for Range Management among others.

July, 1995 to May, 2001 - Principal in WorkSpan, Inc., corporate office: Mohamet, IL. WorkSpan was a virtual company with six principals. Educational consulting on leadership (individual and organizational), change strategies, organizational coaching, diversity, workshop design and workshop development are the company's major focal areas. I was directly involved with a W. K. Kellogg funded project at CAST (the Council for Agriculture, Science and Technology), Ames, Iowa, called Conversations on Change (1995-2000). In the summer of 1997, I coordinated a workshop called Negotiating Racial and Multiracial Identities. WorkSpan also had ongoing projects at Texas A & M, The Ohio State University, Indiana University, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, University of Missouri, Oregon State University, Clemson University, John Deere, Brunswick, the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, and the University of California system.

January to May, 1994 - Adjunct faculty, Continuing and Vocational Education Department, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Taught: CAVE 850-Diversity in Adult Continuing Education and CAVE 322-Sociology of Adult Continuing Education.

January, 1993 to June, 1994 - Outreach Specialist, National Extension Leadership Development (NELD) Project, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Director: Jerold Apps. The purpose of this W. K. Kellogg Foundation supported program was to prepare a cohort of emerging leaders in the Cooperative Extension System nationwide. My job roles emphasized program development for leadership seminars and workshops around the themes of developing a personal philosophy of leadership, diversity, organizational renewal and global awareness. Additionally, I worked with Wisconsin Public Television to develop a video on the three years of the NELD project in Wisconsin and wrote The NELDstory. The goal of the project was to assist future leaders in rethinking the outreach mission of the public universities.

September, 1990 to December, 1992 - National Extension Leadership Development (NELD) Project, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Director: Jerold Apps. There were three main focal areas for this W. K. Kellogg Foundation sponsored project: Intern seminars for a pool of 70 NELD interns who were considered possible candidates for director and administrator positions within Cooperative Extension, Director/Administrator Workshops aimed at building awareness of next age leadership among existing executives, and a Land Grant University Presidents Forum focusing on the role of extension and outreach in the Land Grant Universities. My job was program development in each of these three areas.

October, 1989 to September, 1990 - Graduate Assistant for Cooperative Extension Outlook Committee which was part of a strategic planning initiative for issues programming in the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension System (CES). An Outlook Report and accompanying Outlook Video were produced for dissemination to 1500 groups across the state to be used, along with local data, for planning the future composition of CES. As part of the strategic planning, we developed a computer accessible database on scans of relevant future-directed articles/speeches/reports. The goal was to increase awareness of contemporary issues that may affect decisions about future directions for Wisconsin CES.

March, 1987 to April, 1989 - Graduate Assistant with the University of Wisconsin-Madison W. K. Kellogg Faculty Seminar on Future Directions in Continuing Education. Project co-directors: Jerold Apps and Alan Knox. This position involved expanding research and facilitating networking among a selected group of 33 junior faculty in adult education nationwide through the use of electronic media and personal contacts. I gained experience in grant writing, research, conference presenting, project report writing, and use of computerized bibliographic retrieval systems.
